Bahrain WTC

Bahrain World Trade Centre is one unique architectural design in Bahrain. It consists of two buildings connected with wind turbines in the middle, which are said to save 30% of the energy needed for the lighting. After your visiting experience and listening to the detailed explanations by the engineers:

How does WTC incorporate sustainable hospitality?
What are the strengths of having such innovation on their building’s structure?
What are the weaknesses?
How could other hospitality organisations benefit from sustainable hospitality?
Further remarks of the trip.

Located Bahrain World Trade Center on the northern waterfront of the city of Manama, in the heart of the financial and business district next to the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel adjacent to each of the King Faisal Street and the palace that leads to the heart of the project Aasma.oukd received numerous international awards, including:
1- LEAF Award for best application Tknlogi large architectural levels.
A sustainable design in construction in the Arab world award.

•What are the weaknesses of it?
Wind turbines are expected to provide 11% to 15% of total energy consumption in the towers or approximately 1.1 to 1.3 GWh per year. This is equivalent to providing the lighting for about 300 homes. The three turbines began work for the first time on April 8, 2008. It is expected to operate at 50% of the time on average per day.

•How could other hospitality organisations benefit from sustainable hospitality?
Was appointed DTZ international agents for marketing and leasing. The downloaded global marketing campaign to attract tenants with the participation of senior international network of offices to them. It was attention to every element of the shops and offices very encouraging. Commenting on the occasion, Robin Williamson, General Manager I LTZ said: "We are delighted Pettmcunnina from the issuance of this announcement, which enhances the commercial strength of Bahrain and supports its position as the main commercial center in the Middle East and the global economy as a whole". The visited Bahrain, a representative of the administration World Trade Center and the angel met and discussed the details of the overall operation and services offered by the institution. In addition, the implementation of plans to manage the center to ensure maximum success in the region. In addition to the twin towers of the project includes a huge commercial center adds more than 148 other units of the complex existing as well as the chance to join the big and famous restaurants. The project advanced cutting steps in the unique technical installations, which will make the project one of the most intelligent office projects in the region.

We have been building the towers on this form, "the form of a sail ship" in order to secure the flow of air conditioned safe acceleration turbine is suitable for work and this has been verified when conducting wind tunnel tests. Rise towers at Sama Bahraini capital Manama to 240 meters, and connects the two towers to each other by three bridges carrying huge wind turbines (huge fans) is the first of its kind in the world, to feed the entire Bahrain World Trade Center building is about 15% to 17% of the total electrical energy consumed in the center. And is associated with the Bahrain World Trade Centre Sheraton Hotel, and consists of Moda Mall, which is the finest and most luxurious complex in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

1). The Bahrain World Trade Center has the most impressive innovation because the ground breaking incorporation of the wind turbines between the two towers are used for a source of renewable energy. The Bahrain World Trade Center has the essence of a sustainable philosophy engaging all of the economic, social and environmental impacts of the project.

2). The strengths of having it is : wind energy is friendly to the surrounding environment, wind turbines take up less space, newer technologies are making the extraction of wind energy more efficient, wind turbines are a great resource to generate energy in remote locations, when wind energy is combined with solar electricity because this energy source is great for developed and developing countries to provide a steady and reliable supply of electricity and once wind turbines are built the energy that it produces does not cause greenhouse gases or other pollutants.

3).The weaknesses of having it is: the wind turbine construction can be very expensive and cost-efficient, although the wind energy is generated it depends on the strength of the wind, wind turbines generally produce a lot less electricity, wind turbines are very noisy and when wind turbines are being manufactured some pollution is being produced.

4). Organizations can benefit from sustainable hospitality because it focuses on reducing the environmental, social and economic impacts of the hospitality sector. Most of these impacts create costs for hospitality service providers because of decreased revenues, increased operating costs and employment costs. Also sustainable hospitality programs provide significant competitive advantage to the different organizations in the hospitality sector.

5). I enjoyed my trip to Bahrain World Trade Center because I learnt a lot about the structure of the buildings and also the how the wind turbines operate. Overall it was a learning and enjoyable experience.

  6. 1> How does WTC incorporate sustainable hospitality?

World’s first building with a wind turbine. The Bahrain world trade center boasts innovative features such as wind turbines to generate electricity, intelligent building technology and high standards of fire safety which makes it a highly interesting construction project on a global scale.

2.> What are the strengths of having such innovation on their building’s structure?

    It became a tourist attraction
It is 1 of the greenest building in the world
It also became a leading example of sustainable energy consumption building
It is also an iconic engineering building in the world
It also won many awards for its design and innovation.

3.> What are the weaknesses of it?

Alot of space had been wasted by the design, high maintenance cost and difficult to maintain as well. The standard of that place is very high and is not fit for the common people.

4.> How could other hospitality organisations benefit from sustainable hospitality?

The other hospitality organisations can extract this idea and make use of it in a positive way. It should also be promoted in the country so that it can benefit the common people as well as the corporate industry.

    Further remarks of the trip.
It was and educative trip. The design of the building was wonderful and innovative and it has style. The only building i have seen which can produce energy by using the wind. The building is also an inspiration to look towards the green side of the earth. The structure of the build symbioses a ship which is associated with trading and the local culture.

Situated on a private beach in Manama, near the airport, in the heart of Manama, close to the Bahrain Mall, and Dana Mall. Also nearby Bahrain Fort and Bab Al Bahrain Suitable for all family members, and is characterized by its location in the city of Manama's business district, close to Bahrain National Museum and Bab Al Bahrain, and Al Fateh Mosque

•What are the strengths of having such innovation on their building’s structure?
Unique building consists of two towers build in 2008 by the company of a multinational architectural Watkins first skyscraper to integrate wind turbines in the design by Noreen company at a cost of 150 million US dollars and is close to popular attractions such as Pearl Towers and occupies second place in terms of tallest tower Bahrain financial Harbour and after a lot of awards won best to use technology within a plan big Bahrain World Trade Center appeared in the sci-fi film of the Al Saifi in 2009 about the extermination of the ground and where the photo shows a computer facility in the film to show Bahrain Trade Center collapses result of the earthquake

•What are the weaknesses of it?
Wind speed increases with height turbine Supreme spin faster and generate energy Akpro required to spin the turbines at the same speed and only the upper turbine Stltf quickly and blades need to speed to spin without being intercepted Shi so mounted on axes perpendicular, but based turbines on a horizontal axis fixed in place and do not turn towards the wind changing standing movement turbines generate catastrophe known resonance wind moves the blades but they cause a concussion in the bridge with time and may become incapable of bearing strength and the possibility that the turbine hit the bridge in the event of deviation in the event of storms

•How could other hospitality organisations benefit from sustainable hospitality?
The center is located in the heart of Bahrain's spring close to the Financial Harbor and the Central Bank of Bahrain and Bahrain Bourse to form a support for the economy, which is witnessing a sophisticated growing and has become the tower is a landmark of Bahrain landmarks and the Moda Mall, which is one of the most luxurious and most expensive commercial complexes most prestigious brands and Alexsuarat there is an entertainment resort, restaurants, shopping centers and the role consists of 34 offices and there are 42 surveillance role tower and Attribution Sheraton Hotel in the five-star category harmonious design with the environment and reduce the proportion of carbon emissions into the atmosphere

    •Further remarks of the trip.
Bahrain is going to further progress and prosperity and resources are used with maximum border the coming future is bright

  9. 1) The WTC incorporates sustainable hospitality in every way they possibly could, their main focal point being the wind turbines in the middle of the two towers that generates energy when needed.

    2) The strengths are that it cuts down on their carbon footprint they leave on the world which means they will be able to survive for a longer period of time. By reducing the amount of non-renewable energy used they help the community and world as a whole. The building also stands as a touristic site and is a benefit to our economic development.

    3) the weaknesses are that they can be dependent on a resource that may not deliver when needed and in the amount necessary. The mechanism may be fragile as the sensors can be damaged by eternal forces, such as birds. It may need regular maintenance which may be difficult to do as they are placed in an odd place. They also do not rotate which means they can not make the best of all the wind can offer from all directions limiting it to one specific direction and minimizing the amount of renewable energy they can source.

    4) They can benefit by being self sustainable and have a low impact on the environment surrounding them. This also opens up another avenue for customers - those who seek an eco-friendly holiday/trip. The hospitality industry can survive longer with renewable energy sources as the buildings and other structures last longer.

    5) I enjoyed the educational aspect of the trip, it was enjoyable and I learnt more about how Bahrain is developing in the Going-Green aspect.

  13. Bahrain World Trade Center or which known as BWTC is one of the biggest towers in Bahrain. It is located in Manama near Bahrain Financial Harbor. BWTC has 50 floors and it uses renewable energy systems such as wind turbines and water filtering.

A1: Wind Turbines have blades, just like an electric fan, but instead of using electricity to generate wind, the turbines do just the opposite. Wind rotates the blades, which spin a shaft connected to a generator and the movement leads to the generation of electricity.

    A2. 1.It's a clean fuel source.
    2. it saves much more money from the moment of creating during its lifetime as ordinary building.
    3. Reduce energy consumption.
    4. It attracts tourists.

A3: -natural ventilation, cannot be regulated
    - High Initial Costs.
    - Wind turbines can be affected by external forces such as birds.

A4: Adopting sustainable hospitality programs can provide a significant competitive advantage to businesses in the hospitality sector.

A5: from the trip, I have learnt about how wind turbines works and generate electricity and how it's save the environment.

  14. 1. The aesthetically appealing building located in the country’s capital, the city of Manama, the Arab Capital of Culture for 2012 and Capital of Arab Tourism for 2013, beautifully shows what emerges when sustainability meets an innovative approach to architecture. The BWTC has been awarded several times for sustainability, receiving, among other highly prestigious recognitions, the Arab Construction World Award for Sustainable Design and a NOVA Award for Innovation.
BWTC is a 50-storey complex consisting of two sail-shaped twin towers rising over 240 meters (787 ft) in height. The towers are linked by three sky bridges with each holding a 225 kW wind turbine, which is 675 kW of wind power production. It was a logical decision to align the wind turbines north considering the fact that, according to statistics, the wind most often blows from the north west (26% of the time) and north (22% of the time). Typical wind speeds vary from 1 m/s to 8 m/s (light air to fresh breeze). That’s where design steps in, because the sail-shaped towers are designed to funnel the wind through the gap to provide accelerated wind passing through turbines. The buildings create an S-shaped flow, ensuring that any wind coming within a 45° angle to either side of the central axis will create a wind stream that remains perpendicular to the turbines, which significantly increases their potential to generate electricity. Turbines supply up to 15% of the BWTC needs, or up to 1300 MWh, enough to provide light for 300 homes.
    2. The innovative design solution may be considered as a milestone in architecture. It reduces the building’s energy consumption and therefore its carbon emission.
    3. Winds are very rare in this region limited in couple of months. Turbines are off most of the year. It seems to be just for a Design.
    4. Architecture should speak of its time and place. Looking at the Middle Eastern architecture you can clearly see that it “speaks” about one of the richest and fastest developing regions of the world, and Bahrain is no exception.
